WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT
Choosing a Speech Therapist
Not every speech therapist (SLP) is the right fit for every family. And not every family is a right fit for every practice. But the right fit is crucial for your child to make progress in speech therapy.
What Is A Good Fit?
Choosing your SLP is an important decision. Here are the six factors we believe you need to consider:
Is the SLP part of Early Intervention or a school? If your SLP is in private practice, do they provide clinic, virtual, or travel therapy services
Location is, of course, hugely important. Is it convenient or feasible for you and for the clinician to meet weekly? Do they offer virtual options if appropriate?
How will speech therapy work financially for your family? Do they take insurance? Are they private pay? Do they offer superbills or a sliding scale?
Every SLP has their own treatment style. Are they neurodiversity-affirming? Are they child-led? Do they educate & empower
families about treatment
Does your speech therapist frequently work with children who have a similar profile to your child? Do they have knowledge about new research in the field?
